The Yummy Art of Wayne Thiebaud

Who is Wayne Thiebaud?

Ask any TTE 4th grader...they know!!!

Wayne Thiebaud is an American a painter who was turned down by gallery after gallery up and down the Arts District in New York.  It wasn't until one gallery decided to take a chance his unusually yummy paintings that he gained success.  

 Inspired by frosted cakes in a bakery shop window, he decided to paint this yummy subject.  It is hard to tell by this photograph, but the paint on his paintings are thickly applied and actually look like yummy frosting.  

With his non-traditional but yummy subject matter, Wayne was considered a major contributor to the Pop Art Movement.  His success is a lesson in resiliency. He was turned down over and over, but he finally made it big as an artist.  In fact, one of the galleries that had previously turned him down spent a small fortune on one of his pieces from his first art show.  

Timber Trail fourth grade used the life and art of Wayne Thiebaud as inspiration for their own Pop Art Pastries.  Trading in thick paint for the beautiful blending of oil pastels, fourth grade artists chose a yummy subject and created their own yummy art. These tasty looking drawings are now on display in the Timber Trail Town Square! Check them out, but please don't eat them!

Location: Rocky Heights Middle School, Culinary Room 214

Come to this fun workshop and create the Gingerbread house of your dreams. Each participant will design and decorate their very own gingerbread house. Take a break and get messy in the kitchen. Enjoy the endless decorating options. Choose from frosted candy roofs to pretzel picket fences. Spread the Holiday spirit by bringing home your very own gingerbread creation!

The Art Room Elf is Back!

Nigel is back and he brought a friend!  Her name is Noel, like the song, "The first Noel."

      
Nigel and Noel have been hanging out in various locations in the art room as students create their masterpieces.


Your elves are always welcome to visit Nigel and Noel in the art room! Last year the elves had quite the holiday party!

TTE Second Grade Mural Artist!

One of our TTE second grade students had the unique and special opportunity to paint a portion on a mural in the Santa Fe Art District in Denver!  While downtown in the art district with her family, Molly (from Mrs. McCluskey's class) and her brother were invited to paint a portion of a Mural by a local Denver artist. This mural can be viewed by driving down town to the Santa Fe Art District. It is located on 7th Street between Santa Fe and Kalamath.

Congratulations Molly! How exciting to get to paint on a mural that will be viewed by hundreds of of art enthusiasts who visit the art district each week!
